About me!
I live, work and garden in upper east Tennessee, Church Hill near Kingsport. Pretty much a life long plant geek . At age 4 I would wait until the neighbor went to work then I would dig up her flowers, pot them up in Dixie cups and wait until she came home that afternoon and sell them back to her,,,,,,,,,,everyday. Needless to say she never had a successful flower bed but I did have change in my pockets.
Survived high school, went to college,,,,,,,,,,,,,quit! and joined the Army. Studied Chinese Mandarin at Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA and at Monterey Inst. of Foreign Studies. After the Army I returned to college and was degreed in 1981 in Ornamental Horticulture/Design/Turfgrass Management. I never did do anything with that turfgrass study.
I have been self employed since 1987 owning/operating Good Earth Landscapes, many of my clients have been with me pretty much from the beginning. We maintain the ornamental plantings for 25 properties (no mowing), seasonal beds, containers and all mulched beds. We also provide design assistance and installation of new properties as well as additions to our contractual clients ornamental plantings. I do a limited amount of speaking at garden clubs, groups and events,,,,,,,i like to talk!
We are lucky living in this area as we have 4 seasons without the extremes of any of them, adequate rainfall (usually) and a ready supply of provided water when we need it. The climate here allows us to grow a wide variety of plant material from Agave to Zamia . Ok Ok the Zamia is a houseplant but i needed something with a Z. We are in Zone 6b but I can and do grow many things that are considered more tender. It's all about location, location, location.
